Once upon a time…when I was a student at Berklee….after practicing all day on a
piano, I would go to a gig and the club piano would be a piece of junk, out of
tune, nightmare. Meanwhile the other musicians would walk into the club with
their only axe, which they carried with them wherever they went.
I then saw an opportunity to become a piano technician apprentice and work at
Berklee as a tuner. So I did that for several years. This allowed me some control
over my sound as a pianist, but still the crappy pianos at gigs would drive me
even more nuts, because now I was a piano tuner, and could REALLY hear all of
the problems in an instrument.
Then I began to build a piano tuning, restoration and moving business.
With the big van and AC power, I
discovered a perfect way to do mobile jam sessions, so now I can have jam
sessions / performances wherever I want.
Most of the YouTube links on
this site
were recorded in the van on the street somewhere.
